The first one in my new apartment!

It's not complete yet. I still need photos of loved ones who have passed, and I also need to make some sugar skulls.

But here is a picture for you...

I heart BENTO

My parents were AWESOME and bought me a super cute Laptop LunchBox/Bento Box. You can get one here... or at Chapters I'm pretty sure.

LOVE IT!

I'm pretty excited about it. These pictures are a mix of my lunch + Monique's lunch. Yea, we have matching lunch boxes. Mine is black with flowers.. and hers is all blue.

Spoon Ring

Yea. I made one. I made a spoon ring.

I went to VV again and they had TONS (i think like.. 30?) individual super fancy spoons. Someone donated like.. a HUGE spoon collection...

So I bought a coupe and I made TWO spoon rings. Here's the first one. Golden Rosey one...

Starving Artist - You're Looking Very Shane Today

Hello hello.

So yesterday... I paid my tuition. ALL PAID. All million billion of it...

I am officially a poor starving artist with no money in my bank account.

I'll be working on some paintings to sell.. and I'm working on a blog to keep as a more professional portfolio. For the casual commision to come along. That one is here

Meanwhile I am enjoying time away from school. Tonight will be a fantastic night where my favourite people can come over and drool over Shane McCutcheon

TEAM SHANE!

Though really I'm in love with Alice.

Meatloaf Muffins

totally not art related...

HOORAY!

Meatloaf Muffins have been made and they are DELISH.

The concept is basically.. meatloaf in muffin-form instead of loaf form.
Makes it super easy for lunches and quick re-heating <3

Recipe comes from my Mom (who got it.. I don't know where..) that she compiled into a big online recipe book (because she's so techy) for my sister when she got married. And once I moved out with Monique it got passed on to us as well :)

Artists need food..a nd this food is delicious!

Before being baked
All done! (we ate some.. SO GOOD!)
yum yum yum

LOTERIA!

So remember that last post... Well I ordered an authentic loteria set from xochico.com

I got it today! AND I AM OVER THE MOON ECSTATIC.

Someone has to come over and play it with me.  It has 20 tablas... so I can play with 20 people :)

**Monique took a picture of me with the cards :) I'll post that here when I upload it.

hurrah!

Some recent inspiration

Check out this site where I have found my source material for my kitchen art!

It's your favourite game... MEXICAN BINGO! I know I know, you say, "Paula, I have no idea what you're talking about but it looks amazing!"

It's Loteria. Essentially Mexican Bingo. Replace Bingo Numbers with images of people/things.

Some gems:

On this excellent site I have come across some very... interesting versions of the original which was (quoting the website) from Don Clemente Gallo with 54 cards in the deck.

The way you play is that you have a card that might look like this:

And then you would have some beans... One person would be calling out the cards and as you match up you place a bean (a real bean) on the image. Get beans all over your card and you win!

Here are some of the weird versions... This one is apparently a knockoff from China:

I feel like they couldn't get consistency in their style of images....Though, granted, their parrot is a bit cuter than the traditional one.

These are a couple of the "New Loteria cards designed by artist Teresa Villegas" They have a few new characters...

It looks a bit like they made the hooves on the devil look like high-heels kind of? Very Lust-inducing I'm sure.

And here are some Posada-themed ones:

Very cute! Though I miss the colours of the original deck...

I'll update with some photos of the ones I have painted already.

P

Long time.

Dear friends,

it has been so many months.. the last time I wrote something was in JANUARY.

I will try to be more consistent.

So I have moved into the new apartment... and I still haven't posted photos.. I will try to do that soon.

When it comes to decorating the place, Monique and I have tried to cover up as much wall space as possible. She's a photographer, and I'm... not-decided-what-I'm-specializing-in-yet-really-er... so we have a lot of art. We're also very much into movies... as comes naturally from working at the theatre. Here are most of my photos in the corner.. all the best film photos from first year :)

And I framed my drawing! From 2nd year figure drawing. I get very much into the Mexican spirit of things particularly with Day of the Dead. I feel like that particular celebration really captures a lot about Mexico: the bright colours, strong faith, importance and value of family, pure happiness, a connection to old Mexico and present Mexico.

And right underneath my drawing are the pillows on the bouch! (bed+couch=bouch) best bouch ever.

And of course... under the Bouch the pull out drawer-thing reveals our awesome set up.

Pretty awesome. And my fave pillow in the centre there.. the white one with flowers on it. And the black ones that Monique picked out...

and of course.. My favourite paintings up by our TV! :)

And we're very much interested in using ALL the wall space. There's room for 8x10s above the doors! :)

**EDIT: I know I just promised you I would be posting more often.. but it appears my computer will take a bit longer to fix. I hope it will all be ok.
